Key data and services

The following key data characterise the Leppe Waste Disposal Centre in Lindlar-Remshagen:

• Size of the whole area: 45 ha

• Approved disposal area: 39 ha
• Infrastructure: roads, administrative building,   workshop, connection to the medium-voltage power grid
• Fast connection to the motorway BAB 4
• Commissioning of the domestic waste landfill in December 1982
• Commissioning of the fermentation and composting plant in January 1998
• Disposal capacity: 10 million m³
• Filled landfill volume by the end of 2004: approx. 6.5 million m³
• Since 1 January 2005 no disposal of waste with organic contents according to the Technical Guidelines for the Treatment and Disposal of Municipal Waste (TASi)

Besides the depositing of inert waste, e. g. excavated soil, bottom ash and used foundry sand in the disposal area of the central landfill, the current services of the Leppe Waste Disposal Centre comprise the following:


• Declaration and registration of the delivered waste
• Accepting and treatment of special waste in the intermediate storage site for harmful substances
• Handling of used electrical appliances from the local collection
• Fermentation and composting of approx. 55,000 tons of biowaste from the domestic biowaste bins and of approx. 5,000 tons of green waste per year
• Quality control and distribution of compost and compost products The compost bears the RAL Quality Mark
• Processing of mineral waste products [building rubble and road materials] via crushing and classification
• Recycling of commercial waste [metal, wood, paper and cardboard, plastics]
• Treatment of bottom ash from the incineration of domestic waste
• Handling of domestic waste and bulky waste from the municipalities of the Oberbergischer Kreis and from Overath for the transport-optimised delivery to the waste-fed heating and power plant in Leverkusen
• Accepting waste and recyclable material by small deliverers


In addition, the Waste Disposal Centre is also the seat of AVEA Logistik.
